Side Projects, RA Interviews, and Reflections - Week 33
This week has been fairly quiet again—pretty similar to last week—but I finally figured out what I want to focus on for my side project. I won’t spoil too much just yet, but it’s something I’ve been putting a lot of energy into and something I hope will be genuinely useful, both for myself and for others. As of now, I’m almost finished with the first version. I’ve been working on it consistently over the past week, and it’s been exciting to have something to build again. Still no pictures to show… maybe next time.
Monday through Wednesday were completely normal—classes, training, and not much else. More professors are canceling classes with finals coming up, and it honestly feels like they don’t know what to do with us anymore. It’s that strange limbo period where the semester is winding down, but we’re not quite finished yet.
Thursday, however, brought two big moments. First was my RA interview. I think it went well—we’ll see what they say next week. Hopefully the Dean appreciated my answers and sees me as a good fit for the role. Becoming an RA would be a great opportunity to grow and also help with the cost of housing, so I’m crossing my fingers.
The second was the final day of our children’s swim lessons. Wheeling offers swim instruction to kids between the ages of 2 and 12, and I’ve mostly worked with the 4-7 year olds. It’s been challenging, to say the least—not just in terms of teaching swimming, but also in patience, leadership, and language skills. It’s not something I’d want to do forever (especially unpaid), but it’s definitely helped me grow. And hey, at least the team gets some funding from it!
Now comes the big question—what’s next? It’s almost time to start thinking about packing my bags. Crazy, right? This year has flown by much faster than I ever imagined. I’m not sure how to feel about it. I really like the people here, but is this the place for me long-term? I still haven’t decided. I guess I’ll keep thinking about it… one week at a time.
