Kicking Off a New Semester: Snow Days, New Entertainment, and Fresh Starts - Week 20

Wheeling J. Uni. Jan 12, 2025

This week marked the beginning of a new semester, and it started on a surprising note. Thanks to a "snowstorm," classes were canceled on Monday and Tuesday. I put snowstorm in quotes because, by my Swedish standards, it was just heavy snowfall, but I wasn’t about to complain. Having two extra days off after the intense Florida training camp was a nice, unexpected break. Though, I’ll admit, it made me a bit lazier and more relaxed than I probably should have been!

One of the highlights of the week was a purchase Sarp and I made—a TV! We found a 55-inch TV on Facebook Marketplace for only $100. The seller was incredibly nice and went out of his way to help us, so we gave him an extra $10 to show our appreciation. Honestly, it was such a steal, and having the TV in our dorm already feels like a game-changer.

Aside from that, it’s been a pretty quiet week. I’ve spent a lot of time hanging out with friends and wandering around campus to see if anything had changed over the break. Spoiler alert: nothing has. Still, it’s been great to see familiar faces again and to say hi to some new ones.

My new classes have been a bit of a wake-up call. This semester feels like it’ll be more challenging than the last, but I’m excited about it. All my classes are business-related, which is perfect since my major is business management. It looks like I’ll need to spend more time studying, but I’m ready to tackle it.

And last but absolutely not least, the swim team officially welcomed two new recruits this week—one for the girls’ team and one for the boys’ team. Both of them are fantastic additions, not just as athletes but as people. They’ve already been fitting in so well with the team, and I’m excited to see what they’ll bring to the table. It’s always inspiring to have fresh energy and new faces to strengthen our dynamic.

Overall, I’m happy to be back in my dorm and settling into my routine again. This semester holds a lot of promise, and I’m looking forward to seeing what’s in store—both in the pool and in the classroom!
